Lorraine grew up in Dorchester (Boston’s largest neighborhood!) as the 6th of 7 children. At age 23, she moved back to Massachusetts after a 3 ½ year stint on Maui in order to provide childcare for her sister and brother-in-law, who were expecting their 3rd child. She was a live-in nanny for them for 8 years, during which time she pursued an English degree at Northeastern University. In September 1996, she joined the EBSC as a preschool teacher at Jeffries Point and began taking Early Childhood Education courses. In 2001, she earned a CDA (Child Development Associate) credential and worked as mentor teacher for several years with ABCD’s Mentor Teacher Project. She is currently working on an Early Education and Care in Inclusive Settings degree at UMass Boston. What inspires her most about her job is seeing families with whom she has worked with over the years and hearing their success stories. When she is not working for children & families in East Boston, she enjoys riding on the back of her boyfriend’s Harley Triglide trike, cruising the back roads of New England- vroom, vroom!

OhYes! Site Coordinator
Maria was born in Puerto Rico and came to Mass at the age of 7. Her first experience working with children was when she moved to Florida in 1989, where she worked at a center-based daycare with preschoolers. She moved back to Chelsea in November 1992 and feels very fortunate to have found a job at Orient Heights Young Explorers in December 1992. After a year, she was transferred to Central Ave Children’s Center where she worked with infants/toddlers. She was the lead teacher in that program until she was offered a Site-Coordinator position back at OH YES!, which she has now overseen since 1995! She attended night school and finished her Associates while caring for her two young boys. What inspires her to work with children is the love they give her every day. There is always so much more to learn and she loves educating the children. Her free time is spent with family and she enjoys participating for work events.
